CBT is a talking therapy. It is normally used in 1:1 sessions with our clients but is also used in group settings.
During CBT people identify the patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that maintain their addictive behaviour. Our clients learn new strategies for breaking these patterns, and they practise these outside our therapy sessions, often keeping a diary of their experiences.
CBT is about the present, rather than the past. Our clients work collaboratively with us to find new solutions. CBT has been shown to be very effective for depression and anxiety disorders. And research also indicates that CBT tailored specifically for chemical dependency and other compulsive behaviours can be very effective. |
